February 2005

It’s been a while since GenerationDUB has had a project car, so I decided to purchase our own this time, a brand new 2003 MK4 GTI 1.8T. Over the next few weeks, I will be keeping GenerationDub.com up to date on the progress of this car. I will show you how to take a stock MK4 GTI and turn it into a fully modified vehicle, simple enough to drive daily, yet extreme enough to take home a trophy.

Obviously the first thing I had to do was buy a vehicle. When you buy a vehicle with the notion to modify, you have to take many things into consideration: Do you want a car that is already modified from factory(20th anniversary GTI)? Is it going to be a trailer queen? Will I make it a daily driver? Will I modify the engine? What power plant do I choose? (VR6, 1.8T, 2.0L)? What body kits are available? Sedan or Hatchback? Possibilities are endless, yet a decision needs to be made.

I want to build a car that can take home a prize, but also be able to safely take me to work daily . I wanted to plan the car out before buying any modifications. Since I already have 19 inch Axis Supermesh rims( Bob) from my last car that are relatively new I decided to work around that. I consulted my friends before making a decision with what body kit I wanted. Luke Niebylski suggested the Rieger R-RX front bumper as a starting point, as it was a rare bumper and not many people had it, but at the same time its clean, yet open design can easily furnish a huge FMIC

I modified a few pictures of cars w/ the Reiger R-RX Bumper and Rear using Photoshop. Shaved out the fog lights, and added the 19’s and molded the Rieger rear like I wanted. This is what I want the car to look like at the end of the project.

Hopefully I can stick to these initial designs, and work my way towards a goal. There’s no sense in buying a plethora of parts that don’t make any sense.

Stay tuned as I take this stock car and build it up for GenerationDub.com. The next update will show more progression of the exterior and suspension setup!
